The Battle of Meggidio, between Egyptian Pharoah Tuthmoses III and a coalition of Canaanite kings took place in 1457 BC. It is recorded in some detail on the walls of the Temple of Amun at Karnak.

On this day in 1974 a Judicial Committee of the House of Representatives formally opened impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon following the Watergate Scandal. During the investigation by the FBI and the Senate Watergate Committee it was discovered that the Nixon administration and Richard Nixon in person, had obstructed justice and committed fraud, criminal acts, wire tapping and espionage. As impeachment and criminal proceedings became inevitable, Nixon resigned becoming the only president to resign.
